NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE IN LIBRA 15 October at 6.55 am in NZ
FULL MOON LUNAR ECLIPSE IN TAURUS 29 October 9.24 am in NZ
Hi Everyone,
The chart for the eclipse looks potent, reflecting the intensity of the ghastly mayhem we are witnessing. I am not going into the global picture today. Instead let’s look at what the eclipses mean for you.
Eclipse season, through the houses
What is your rising sign? Your eclipse season horoscope is below, just scroll down. Your rising sign will give you the most relevant horoscope. If you don’t have a whole sign chart email me and ask for one. Reading your own chart is not hard to learn, you don’t need an astrologer to do it for you (but it sure helps sometimes!).
But before we get into the gritty details, let me warmly welcome new subscribers. Thanks for joining us, it’s lovely to have you.
Welcome
This seems like a good time to mentions that this is a FREE newsletter, because I like to have a casual space where I can experiment with things astrological and where I can share my skills and knowledge—over 40 years worth. I am not from any particular school or system (although I absolutely love Hellenistic astrology), I don’t have any special credentials and I don’t have any particular hustle going on.
The ancient astrologers knew this; the more conscious and intentional you are with your archetypes (sometimes I call them planets) the less easily they can sneak up and grab you and pull you along somewhere where you don’t want to be. Ultimately they are your friends and are only too willing to help, if you ask nicely.
In this way we go beyond reacting to circumstances and situations, to greater presence and participation.
The eclipse charts
In the new Moon-solar eclipse on 15 October, the Moon and Sun are joined in Libra, very close to the South Node, the dragons tail, and Mercury is applying, and under the Sun’s beams. Venus is the receiving archetype, and she is in detriment in Virgo, while separating from an opposition to Saturn. Mars is the strongest planet in the chart, very powerful, very effective, very potent in his home sign, Scorpio. The other main player is Pluto, at the bending, or square to the nodes.
The full Moon-lunar eclipse in Taurus on 29 October, the following eclipse pair, seems to deepen these dark themes with Mars, Mercury and the Sun in Scorpio, in a tight opposition to the Moon and Jupiter in Taurus. It’s a strange off-centre sort of an eclipse season. It looks adversarial and tense, especially Mercury trapped between the Sun and Mars. With Venus still debilitated it seems unlikely she can do any good to alleviate the tensions, however Jupiter and the exalted Moon in Taurus offer glimmers of hope.
Opening Chapter
This is the opening chapter of a new story beginning with the new Moon solar eclipse and its Libra themes and archetypes.
You probably already know that a solar eclipse was considered an ill omen in the ancient world (especially for Royalty). Here in NZ we have our national elections the following day, so potentially a culture shift happens that could take us by surprise.
In many ancient myth systems, the lunar nodes are a giant sky dragon who eats the Sun (or Moon) and this symbolism remains a key to understanding it.
The dragon can be like our own personal demon, the one we battle and/or befriend, throughout our lifetimes, the karmic battle between our internal archetypes, depending on where the nodes are on our chart.
When I say Karma, I mean cause and effect in this lifetime; the choices, responses and decisions we make and the subsequent entanglements we get stuck in. These are under the auspices of the Moon, and the eclipses are those special knots that we might have an opportunity to undo and escape from.
The dragon’s tail is the descending node and in traditional astrology is connected to decrease, release and diminishing, which can either be what you want, or don’t want, depending on the context. Good and bad being very subjective concepts.
Key themes
With the tail In Libra we can expect themes relating to balance, justice, fairness and equality, agreement, beauty, art and aesthetics, peace and war, agreements, treaties and contracts.
Libra is airy, volatile and gusty.
The scales may tip hither and thither, that pointy tail kicking up dust and wreaking havoc, the dragon delighting in a bit of wonton destruction.
What would you like to see smashed to smithereens? Let’s be honest, if we could un-manifest something right now, there’s plenty to choose from.
Mercury, who is hosting Venus, is combust. This hints at talks going in circles, delayed decisions, disagreements over how things should look, arguments where everyone is talking but no one is listening, kindness and compliments that somehow miss the mark or remain unsaid, and so on. Commerce and currencies potentially malfunctioning also.
Venus, who is in charge of eclipse proceedings as ruler of Libra, is unable to help. She is not in a sign where she can bring love, beauty, agreement or affection.
Pluto at the bendings (the 90 degree angle) has proved to be very destructive since the last eclipse season in April/May 2023. We can look back to last April and May as it’s quite likely we will be revisiting some of those themes.
Oppositional ideologies arise out of a deadlocked situation, and we might not warm to some of the changes we are confronted with. We will need to wait until Mercury is free from its enclosure and the Sun’s heat, before we get anything truthful or honest.
The Pluto extremes are generating this all or nothing, now or never thinking, provoking our fight, freeze or flight responses. Keeping our emotional balance is imperative.
We may not fully comprehend what has happened until we can look back on this year in its entirety because eclipse narratives can take months to play out.
Libra Rising
1H solar eclipse, 8H lunar eclipse
With Libra in the first house you very much relate to this sign as who you are. It governs your appearance, character, your soul as manifest in a physical body, your mental and physical health.
With Venus in your 12H and under pressure it’s likely you are feeling tired or unwell. It is essential to take some rest if this is the case, or at least look into some healing modalities that you haven’t considered before.
This eclipse season represents a profound turning point in your life.
While it might feel sudden, you have seen signs since the south node first entered Libra last July.
Continue to reconfigure your finances, income and resources, especially those you share with others. The full Moon in Taurus could bring an opportunity for you to close off a difficult money situation, or a way to move forward unencumbered by past mistakes.
Achieving the balance you want has not been possible as you tip one way then the other. By now you have probably realised it’s time to embrace what is happening, to be proactive and take a bold step into new territory. You can now rid yourself of anything that has got in the way of you becoming who you are truly meant to be.
Scorpio Rising
12H solar eclipse, 7H lunar eclipse
Dreams, synchronicity and messages from beyond the veil are speaking to you, but are you listening? Something from the past, or deep within your subconscious, is revealing secrets and information that has been hidden from you. Could it be health issue you are trying to find a diagnosis or a cure for?
Either way here is an opportunity to get to the bottom of it.
You might be getting inklings about who your loyal friends are as you sift through conversations and connections with others.
The full moon eclipse in your 7H of relationships could bring supportive allies into your life, or relationships that rely on your strength and stability, or a port in a storm. Someone you met last May could reappear. But who can you trust? Meetings that seem fated or synchronous need time to gestate, to develop and grow into the deeper connections you are looking for.
You can put your heavy burdens down now, you don’t need to carry them anymore. Mars restores your energy and drive, cutting away the chains that have kept you stuck on the wheel of fortune.
Sagittarius Rising
11H solar eclipse, 6H lunar eclipse
You might feel like you’re above the drama and silly squabbles going on around you, especially disagreements within your social networks, one friend in particular, or a group that you trust and believe in. These are friendly, easy angles so its likely you will feel untouched by events, yet still have a role to play in helping to resolve potential conflicts.
Relationship issues among partners, friends, colleagues, or professional allies, are pointing to a deeper need for clarity, equality, leadership and integrity.
With regard to your health, mental wellbeing and the spiritual connections you have been working on, be open to taking a fresh approach to something that came up earlier in the year. The full Moon eclipse is a culminating moment, that will ultimately help you clear a new, easier path forward. This year represents and intense healing cycle, a cycle of soul growth and evolution. The time and attention you invest now will reap rewards next year.
Capricorn Rising
10H solar eclipse, 5H lunar eclipse
The new Moon eclipse falls on the cardinal angle, making this powerful season for change, one where opportunities appear suddenly, even miraculously, while other sure things evaporate without warning. The two weeks between the new Moon and full Moon is an especially auspicious time for you to open up, and listen to your intuition.
You have reached a pinnacle, but now what? It is timely and feels fated that you are here at last, but you are also being asked to let something go. This is not quitting, it’s relinquishing something whose time has come. Close the door on the way out and don’t look back.
A public situation could show up your marvellous ability to be consistent and stable in a crisis. Or your reputation is scrutinised in some other way. If anyone can deflect nefarious intentions or see through hidden agenda’s its you.
Your 5H being powerfully configured since the middle of the year, themes relating to children and fun things are likely to be showing up again around the full Moon. Remember joy? This is the feeling you get when you’re in your happy place, and there will be good news to come if you allow yourself to relax and enjoy it.
Aquarius Rising
9H solar eclipse, 4H lunar eclipse
As a kindred air sign, you are already resonating with these Libra themes, which are at a helpful and supportive angle. With pressure on career, reputation and other worldly activities, perhaps you are looking for more balance in your life? Travel, further studies or the executive position you’re after, are on your radar, perhaps now within reach, yet it seems the timing is not right, not yet.
The full Moon could show up some ways to move forward with a domestic situation. Your home, land and family are themes set for future growth, either a larger abode, extended family arrangements or one that offers your more freedom, especially if you have felt stuck in a holding pattern. This eclipse brings a powerful call for change.
Tensions between your public and private self could demand action, or sudden and drastic decisions have to be tackled, especially those concerning your career ambitions that no longer line up with the new you.
Pisces Rising
8H solar eclipse, 3H lunar eclipse
The new Moon eclipse relates to themes like inheritance, debts and the resources you share with others such as insurance and your partner’s income. It’s likely you have been wrangling these kinds of themes since July and already know what’s going on. A breakthrough is imminent, especially concerning a relationship that has been awkward lately or an agreement that you’re unsure of.
However this area of your chart also relates to hidden things, the shadowy, twilight realms, the mysteries of death and rebirth, as well as our most intense psychic experiences.
This could show up as an opportunity to liberate yourself from karmic debts that you inherited, or agreed to when you didn’t know any better.
As you are a sensitive soul, expressing these deep themes in some way could be powerfully cathartic and healing for you, especially with music, writing or visual arts. If you have been working on something in secret, Mars is now supporting a more fearless approach to getting noticed.
You will know when the time is right to voice a hidden truth, or unveil your masterwork. Be ready.
Events around the lunar eclipse-full Moon, are more like signposts, messages or synchronicities meant to guide you on the path.
This is a journey, either physical or metaphysical, within your community, or a gathering of your neighbours, brothers, sisters and cousins, or even people from far away lands.
Aries Rising

These powerful angular eclipses coincide with the turning of the seasons, rewarding you for the time and effort you have invested.
Taurus Rising
6H solar eclipse, 1H lunar eclipse

It’s time to make changes that will lead to more healthy habits and patterns.
Balance, beauty, harmony and peace are essential ingredients for manifesting what you need to thrive, in the same way that you would provide optimal conditions for your pets, or your pot-plants, or your gardens.
The full Moon eclipse in your sign is culminating your efforts at self-improvement, potentially putting you front and centre of a windfall of some sort. However with the Sun, Mercury and Mars lining up in your relationship sign it seems you will need to either negotiate or stand firm on your requirements. Because this is happening on your blind side you might be confronted by a surprise that could take a while to get your head around. Either way this is a new cycle requiring a fresh approach. Perhaps the financial rewards are less attractive than a chance to try something more exciting or better aligned with your beliefs.
